Liverpool are running into contract issues with several key players.

The likes of Dominik Szoboszlai and Ryan Gravenberch are due new deals - with their current contracts expiring in summer 2028.

And Curtis Jones too might count himself as a player worthy of a new deal on his preferred terms - with the England midfielder out of contract a year earlier in 2027.

But the most immediate concerns lie with Ibrahima Konate. The clock is very much ticking for the defender’s Liverpool career; he is only a matter of months from seeing his contract expire.

Konate contract is expiring

Having signed in 2021 from RB Leipzig for £35m the France international has grown into a key first-team performer.

Out of contract at the end of the 2025/26 season Konate has attracted interest from clubs across the continent - including Real Madrid, Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain and Inter.

Liverpool would be set against losing the 26-year-old on a free but time is running out to get a deal done.

But David Lynch speaking to Anfield Index has confirmed “it’s not over” between Liverpool and Konate regarding a new deal.

Liverpool still in talks with Konate

“I mean, the upside is we’re not hearing any big links to anyone yet in terms of moves for him and Liverpool are in talks as I understand it and that is corroborated on both sides of the deal by the way – that’s Liverpool and the player’s camp,” he says.

“So, you know, we know that it’s not over yet, but I would love to hear some positive breakthrough news about that because he’s you know, he’s just an absolutely massive player.”

Talks are ongoing between the club and the player’s entourage - and no doubt club fans will be hoping for a late breakthrough. That happened last season when Richard Hughes secured deals for Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk - let’s see if Konate follows suit.

Last season he emerged as a key part of the defence alongside Van Dijk - and he has come roaring back into form in the last few weeks after a subdued start to the campaign.
