After signing Yan Couto and Daniel Svensson on a permanent basis, Borussia Dortmund have moved quickly to confirm the arrival of Jobe Bellingham (19) from Sunderland for a reported €38m. The Englishman follows in the footsteps of his older brother, Jude, who played for die Schwarzgelben between 2020 and 2023 – Jobe has signed a contract until 2030.
Speaking about his emotions on becoming a Borussia Dortmund, player, Jobe said: “It’s an incredible feeling. It’s a great privilege because it’s the dream of many players – and for a few weeks now it’s been my dream too. I’m very happy to be here.”
Bellingham has already partaken in his first training session for this new club, and he will fly to the USA for the upcoming UEFA Club World Cup as opposed to representing England at the U21 European Championship in Slovakia later this month.
Jobe is no stranger to the Signal Iduna Park, watching his older brother on many occasions in previous years. When asked about the infamous south stand, Bellingham added: “They were just incredibly loud and full of energy. So many colours and many flags. And the scarves. Constantly loud. I also saw them at away games. They also travelled a lot. Simply incredible.”
On his short and long-term goals at Borussia Dortmund, Bellingham ended his interview with the club’s official media channels with: “In the short term: simply to have a positive influence on the club. To build a connection with the fans, within my team and also with the coaching staff. I think that should be the first step for every player at every club. For me, that’s the foundation for the future. Once I’ve settled in and can start performing and doing what I can do, then the rest will take care of itself.”
