Sheffield Wednesday have been warned that they risk going backwards if Danny Rohl leaves the club in the future.

The German has done an outstanding job since he was appointed in October 2023, which included steering the Owls to safety against all odds last season.

Wednesday have progressed again in the current campaign, with Rohl’s side 10th in the Championship and just two points away from the play-off places prior to the midweek fixtures.

Danny Rohl is integral to Sheffield Wednesday’s future

Despite the improvements under Rohl, it’s fair to say that the head coach hasn’t appeared to have the best relationship with Dejphon Chansiri.

The owner claimed halfway through the window that he hadn’t spoken to Rohl about transfers, and whilst Ibrahim Cissoko and Stuart Armstrong arrived to bolster the squad, which prompted praise from the boss, there was a feeling that Wednesday are still a player or two short.

So, when asked by FLW about how important Rohl is to the club, fan pundit Patrick made it clear that the 35-year-old is raising the standards at Hillsborough, and he needs to be backed to carry that on.

It’s the most crucial thing possible (keeping Rohl). He is the only man driving the operation at this club. If you look at his results so far, last season was remarkable how we survived. They’re in spite of our owner and this season he has got a bottom six squad fighting for the play-offs.

He has been the best thing to happen to our club in decades. He is a hugely talented, progressive, forward-thinking manager who wants to better this club, unlike the chairman, who has the approach of saying it’s not my fault or up to me to do this or that.

With the January window, if it wasn’t for Rohl grabbing hold of the situation there’d be no new signings. He had to be the one to call the meeting and sit down with our chairman, and to chat a modicum of sense into him.

In regard to the structure of the club, Rohl, with his experience at Southampton, Germany and Bayern Munich, knows how a modern club should be run, and he is trying to implement that as much as he can at Sheffield Wednesday.

There’s a clear frustration from him that it’s hard to achieve that. If Rohl goes, we would be trundling along again, with some average manager, most likely fighting relegation with a chairman who still doesn't know how to run a club. So, Rohl is this football club, and keeping him is imperative.”

Danny Rohl will have big ambitions at Sheffield Wednesday

It should be said that there’s no suggestion Rohl will walk away any time soon, and his only aim right now will be finishing the season with Wednesday and trying to reach the play-offs.
