“It’s too easy” – Jamie Redknapp slams Chelsea ace for lacking “appetite” in Aston Villa loss

Sky Sports pundit Jamie Redknapp was less than impressed with Malo Gusto for his defending against Aston Villa.

The Blues slumped to a 2-1 defeat at Stamford Bridge despite dominating the first half, and lead 1-0 at half time thanks to a goal from Joao Pedro.

However, the second half was a different story, and Ollie Watkins came off the bench to score a brace, whilst the Blues failed to register a shot.

Jamie Redknapp not impressed with Malo Gusto defending

Unai Emery’s triple substitution changed the game, and Chelsea simply didn’t have a response for Villa’s tactical changes.

Watkins equalised in the 63rd minute, and was then left unmarked from a corner seven minutes from time to head home the winner.

Gusto was supposed to be marking the England international, and Redknapp was less than impressed with the France international’s defending.

“Once he gets back in, I don’t think he shows any appetite to head it,” he told Sky Sports.

“I think he ducks down because he’s worried what’s behind him.

“It’s too easy, he gets pushed out the way and doesn’t do enough.

“You talk about blockers and markers, he’s doing neither. Is that a man who is trying to attack the ball? Not really.”

Chelsea sweating on Marc Cucurella hamstring injury

Gusto came on at left back for Marc Cucurella in the second half, which surprised people at the time, but there was a reason for it.

Enzo Maresca confirmed after the game the Spaniard asked to come off, and has potentially suffered a hamstring injury.

Chelsea will be sweating on Cucurella’s fitness ahead of Tuesday’s must win game with Bournemouth, and they could be without both left backs after Jorrel Hato missed the defeat to Aston Villa through injury.

Hopefully it’s nothing serious for Cucurella as being without him for an extended period of time would be a major blow.
