Ivan Juric has admitted that the best solution for Sam Amo-Ameyaw would be to go out on loan in the January transfer window. The 18-year-old has not started a league game this season.
This week, Ivan Juric presented an unpleasant surprise to Southampton fans - Not only did he imply that his priority would be to deal with the inflated number of players at Southampton this January but he also admitted to not having a strategy meeting about the January transfer window yet.
That meeting is scheduled in for today, where both Ivan Juric and the Southampton owners will have a better understanding on how they plan to attack the transfer window - If they even do, that is.
Nevertheless, Ivan Juric might have hinted at another player leaving Southampton in January, at least temporarily.
According to a report from Daily Echo, Ivan Juric has hinted that the best route for Sam Amo-Ameyaw is to be sent on loan in the January transfer window. While it is his aim to give playing time to young players, there are some who simply cannot play due to other demands.
In his own words, Juric said: "For the young players, playing is the best. They shouldn't lose time. We have youngsters like Tyler Dibling, Mateus Fernandes and Lesley Ugochukwu who are playing, which is good."
Then, Juric added: "If a young player is not playing, it's not good. I think (a loan) is the best solution for every young player who isn't playing."
This season, Amo-Ameyaw has not started a single Premier League game. He has come off the bench against Newcastle United and Aston Villa.
In the only match which Amo-Ameyaw has started in this season, he bagged a goal. It was in the EFL Cup fixture against Cardiff, where Amo-Ameyaw started, played 90 minutes and bagged a goal for himself.
It is for this reason why Southampton expect big things out of the winger. Of course, though, he must be playing games to continue his development.
Thankfully, Amo-Ameyaw will not be short of option if he is to seek a loan move this month. After all, there are plenty of clubs, namely in the Championship, who would benefit from taking the youngster on loan until the end of the season.
While the Saints face an uphill battle to avoid relegation, there won't be many chances for Juric to experiment with his squad. Therefore, players like Sam Amo-Ameyaw could be forced to look elsewhere to develop, even if only temporarily.
