Ivan Perisic, 37, has become the sixth player to score in four different World Cups, L'Équipe notes. He put Croatia ahead against Portugal in the round of 32 in Toronto.
He struck with a left-footed effort in the 53rd minute in a tie played overnight from Thursday to Friday.
Cristiano Ronaldo is the only player to have scored in six World Cups. The 41-year-old had an equaliser ruled out for a shoulder offside, then levelled from the penalty spot in the 67th minute.
Ronaldo has 11 World Cup goals across 2006, 2010, 2014, 2018, 2022 and 2026. Lionel Messi has scored in five editions, 18 goals across 2006, 2014, 2018, 2022 and 2026.
The four-edition scorers are Pelé with 12 goals in 1958, 1962, 1966 and 1970, Uwe Seeler with nine in 1958, 1962, 1966 and 1970, Miroslav Klose with 16 in 2002, 2006, 2010 and 2014, and Perisic with seven in 2014, 2018, 2022 and 2026.
