According to Glorioso 1904, Franjo Ivanovic is entering decisive days at Benfica, with his immediate future potentially hinging on José Mourinho’s selections in the final three league games.
The Croatian forward impressed in the 4-1 win over Moreirense, coming on in the 75th minute and scoring twice. This burst of form could be crucial for a 2026 World Cup call-up with Croatia.
There is a key condition, he needs to start. Limited playing time has been an obstacle, something Zlatko Dalic previously acknowledged when explaining his omission due to a lack of minutes at Benfica.
After the match, Mourinho said the decision rests with Dalic but he would very much like Ivanovic to be picked, noting the striker’s adaptation and outstanding physical profile.
With the squad announcement set for 18 May, Ivanovic is in a race against time. He faces strong competition from Ante Budimir, Petar Musa, Igor Matanovic and Dion Beljo, despite four goal contributions in his last seven games.
This season for Benfica, Ivanovic, valued at 18 million euros, has played 41 competitive matches, 23 in Liga Portugal Betclic, 11 in the Champions League, four in the Taça de Portugal and two in the Taça da Liga. Across 1,291 minutes he has eight goals and two assists.
