Franjo Ivanovic struck in the 90+6 minute to give Benfica victory against Arouca in matchday 26, moving them level, provisionally, with Sporting in second place.
Benfica had trailed for long spells before the Croatian settled it deep into stoppage time. According to O Jogo, staff assessments indicate Ivanovic has improved his adaptation to José Mourinho’s ideas, notably without the ball and within the team’s model.
It continued his recent impact after he set up Leandro Barreiro in the 2-2 draw with Porto. His increased involvement reflects expanding options for José Mourinho, who has handed him more minutes in recent games.
Valued at €20 million, Ivanovic has played 35 competitive matches for Benfica this season, 18 in the Liga Portugal Betclic, 11 in the Champions League, four in the Taça de Portugal and two in the Taça da Liga.
Across 1,169 minutes, he has scored six goals and supplied two assists.
