Lilian Brassier on his first few days in Frankfurt, his move to Eintracht, his style of play and his relationship with Adi Hütter.

… his start to life in Frankfurt: “The first few days have gone really well. I feel very, very settled and I’m glad to be here. We were working hard last week and have spent this week preparing for our next game.”

… his style of play: “I love committing challenges and winning the majority of them. I think I’m also good at playing the ball out from the back, but it’s my strength in the tackle and my mental resilience – which I try and pass on to my team-mates – that set me apart the most. You’ve got to be a bit of a nuisance when it comes to tackling sometimes, regardless of your position. I’ve always been a fighter.”

… reasons behind his move: “I started my professional career in France seven years ago and I’m delighted to finally have the chance to move to the Bundesliga – a new country, a new league. If I were to look back one day and realise that I’d never played outside France, it would probably be a shame. Besides, a lot of French players have played for Eintracht Frankfurt in the past, which is why I’ve already been following the club. They’re very ambitious and have been involved in every European competition in recent years. I want to help Eintracht Frankfurt get back there.” 

… head coach Adi Hütter: “We have a good relationship and we’ve known each other since his he was in charge at Monaco. As fate would have it, we’ve come across each other again in Frankfurt.”

… differences between the Bundesliga and Ligue 1: “Generally, I regard the Bundesliga as a very attack-minded league – a bit like the Premier League. I was eager to find out more about that style of play. Although I’ve only played one game so far, my immediate impression is that there are fewer backwards passes than in France.”

… his position: “It’s true that I used to play at left-back, but that was mainly to deputise when a player was injured or suspended. I prefer playing at centre-back, whether in a back three or a back four. I’m adaptable in the middle, which is where my strengths as a defender come to the fore.”
