The Englishman sprung a surprise on Wednesday night when he named Filip Jorgensen in the starting line-up over the Spaniard.

Sanchez has been in very good form this season, and despite being at fault for the second goal against Arsenal, it was a shock to see him on the bench at Villa Park.

Liam Rosenior reaction to Robert Sancherz being dropped

Rosenior admitted he made the decision to go with Jorgensen from a gut feeling he had in training, and the Dane responded with a good performance.

It had been reported Jorgensen was considering his future in January due to a lack of playing time, and wanting to be Denmark’s number one at the World Cup this summer.

Rosenior stated after the game he doesn’t work with a number one, but his decision now raises the question of who will start in goal against Wrexham.

Sanchez will no doubt be hoping to get back between the sticks and show what he can do, and speaking ahead of the game Rosenior confirmed he’d responded in a positive way.

“I’ve been really honest with Rob, he was disappointed not to play the game but the way he responded, he was magnificent,” he told his pre-match press conference.

“There was no difference in him. If we’re going to be successful in the short and long term, you need a group with a strong mentality and Rob has that.”

Mike Penders to be number one next season?

Whilst Jorgensen and Sanchez are set to do battle for the remainder of the season, Chelsea also have talented youngster Mike Penders on their books.

Penders is currently impressing on loan at Strasbourg, and it’s been reported he;’s the front-runner to be the number one next season.
