Luke Shaw and Patrick Dorgu, Manchester United’s only senior left-backs in the squad, are missing for tonight’s clash with Brighton and Hove Albion.

The Red Devils are currently undergoing their final preparations ahead of the 8pm kick-off at Old Trafford.

Yet, Michael Carrick will have to make do without the two full-backs, and has called upon Noussair Mazraoui to deputise this evening, while youngster Harry Amass is on the bench.

It marks the third consecutive match that Shaw has missed due to injury, which hasn’t come as much of a surprise given his record over the last decade.

As for Dorgu, Manchester Evening News journalist Steven Railston has revealed that the Dane has been granted a rest.

“I’ve been told Patrick Dorgu has been given a rest this evening. Sounds like Carrick is set to make a few changes after the Manchester derby defeat,” said Railston in the lead-up to the tie.

Remarkably, Youri Tielemans has been given the honour of captaining the side in Bruno Fernandes’ absence.

Andrey Santos makes his first start since the opening day of 2026/2027 against Hull City.

Both Shea Lacey and Karl Darlow make their first-team debuts, and Mason Mount has been given the nod for the first time this campaign.

Brighton have frequently proven to be a bogey opponent for United, so coming out on top come the end of the night is imperative for Carrick – particularly after Sunday’s dismal derby display.
