"I've had good phases and sometimes not-so-good phases" – Musiala on fight to return to top form after injury return

Bayern Munich star Jamal Musiala admits he still has steps to take on his road back to peak form following the serious ankle injury he suffered at last summer’s Club World Cup.

But at the same time, the German international is pleased with the progress he has made since returning from injury in January.

“I think I've had good phases and sometimes not-so-good phases, which is completely normal,” Musiala told Sky Germany, reflecting on his form.

“I think it was good to get back into the rhythm and back into the team a bit. As I already said, I'm really happy with what I've managed to achieve. I know there are still steps forward I can take, things that are still missing compared to last season. But when I looked at what I expected a few months ago and where I am now, I'm very, very satisfied.”

The 23-year-old admits it has been difficult to remain patient in his recovery.

“I want to be back at the same level as before immediately or as quickly as possible. It simply takes patience, even when I'm involved in every game. You can also see that sometimes something is still missing; in some matches you don't notice it. But I'm very satisfied with the support I have and just want to look forward,” he said.

Musiala has two games left to play with Bayern this season – Saturday’s Bundesliga match against 1. FC Köln and the DFB-Pokal final against VfB Stuttgart in Berlin on May 23 – before the World Cup with Germany follows.
