Alex Iwobi has said Fulham will take it ‘take it step by step’ in pursuit of European qualification after a big win at Sunderland.
Fulham boosted their hopes of European football after an impressive 3-1 win at The Stadium of Light on Sunday. Raul Jimenez scored twice for the Cottagers, heading in an opener from Iwobi’s corner after 54 minutes, before doubling the lead from the penalty spot just seven minutes later.
Enzo Le Fee pulled one back for Sunderland from the spot, but Iwobi’s fine finish sealed success for Fulham on Wearside.
The win lifts the West Londoners above Sunderland and into 10th, with just three points between Marco Silva’s side and Brentford in seventh.
Iwobi was pleased with the performance by his team on a ‘difficult pitch’ but was coy on the club’s chances of Europe. He refused to rule out continental qualification but said Fulham’s focus is only on the next game.
“We knew it was going to be difficult, the pitch wasn’t great,” he said to Sky Sports.
“We know if we wanted to climb up the table we had to get these points away from home. They have been very good at home and it’s good to get the result we wanted
“We take it step by step (pushing for Europe). Onto the next game, we got the three points which was the aim, to climb above them. We take it game by game – that cliche saying and see where we end up at the end of the season.”
