Jacek Magiera, Poland’s assistant coach and a former Legia Warsaw player and manager, has died aged 49. The Polish Football Association announced his death in a statement on Friday.

He suffered a medical episode while running and was taken to the military hospital in Wroclaw, where attempts to resuscitate him were unsuccessful. The exact circumstances have not yet been confirmed.

Magiera had served as Jan Urban’s assistant with the national team since July 2025.

A combative midfielder in the 1990s, he later returned to Legia Warsaw as a coach, first as assistant then as head coach. His tenure included the league title in 2017 and a Champions League campaign.

The federation extended its sincere condolences to his family, friends and loved ones, praising his passion, values and service to Polish football.
