Jack Harrison leaves Leeds Utd for MLS in the USA | OneFootball

Jack Harrison, who controversially spent two seasons on loan with Everton while his parent club Leeds Utd languished in the Championship after being relegated in 2023, has moved back across the Atlantic to join New England Revolution of the MLS.

On his departure, he left this message for Leeds fans:

“It’s hard to put into words what Leeds United has meant to me. When I arrived in 2018, I joined a club with an incredible history and supporters who demanded everything from the players who wore the shirt. I could never have imagined the journey we were about to go on together.

“Leeds became my home and gave me memories I’ll carry with me for the rest of my life. Some of the greatest moments of my career came in Leeds colours.

“The last couple of years haven’t been straightforward. Going out on loan [at Everton] wasn’t an easy decision, and I understand that many supporters found it difficult to accept but football sometimes takes you in unexpected directions, one thing that never changed was my respect for Leeds United.

“I always wanted this club to succeed, and seeing Leeds back where it belongs in the Premier League makes me proud. Leeds United isn’t just another club to me. It helped to shape me as a footballer, as a person, and gave me memories and connections I’ll cherish forever.

Harrison started his professional career in the MLS with New York City a decade ago before joining Manchester City.

Was he really with us for TWO seasons? Surely true, I don't doubt that. But then he surely did not make a long lasting impression or impact on me.

Not a star player, was or is he?

Jack Harrison was a decent player who gave 100 percent but just lacked that Premier league standard a tad, much like many Everton players over the last few years and even now. MLS is more his level.

As much as I try very hard to defend the level of MLS, the fact that Jack Harrison will now be one of their “designated players,” which for you non-Americans means he’ll be one of 3 players deemed good enough to be the highest-paid players, says all you need to know about where our domestic league is.

By all accounts a good guy, a hard worker, and a winger who now struggles to dribble, cross or score at a high level.

Not that Jack Harrison was really a Blue, especially according to this where he tries to blot out the period he spent with Everton. Never a player I thought much of, to be honest.

One worldie of a goal. Never had the speed, consistency or ability needed to be a regular influencer. But when he wore an Everton shirt he got my full support as they all do.

Once upon a time Jack Harrison was the calibre of player we could attract and afford. I don't think his effort was ever wanting.

I won't hold that against him and wish him well for the future.

As a New England Revolution supporter, I became an Evertonian in 1999 when former Rev striker, Joe-Max Moore transferred over on a free.\

As I recall, he lasted at Goodison as long as Jack did. Realistically the same achievement level. Clearly MLS is a step or 2 below the Premier League. I wish Jack well here.

Over the years, I attended about a dozen fixtures at Goodison and other away venues. Haven't been to the new facility yet.

One note, attending several away fixtures, it struck me that Evertonians “travel” very well... outstanding support at away matches. COYBs

Very very weird players Harrison.

When we signed him in 2023 I was genuinely pleased, I remember the player at Leeds was a busy industrious eye for a goal midfielder.

Comes to Everton and looks like he's never kicked a ball at professional level, seems he went back to Leeds and that continued.

He's at home in the MLS

Opinions on this lad would be very different if we'd given him a decent RB to work with rather than leaving him isolated out on the wing with no link up play possible.

I always thought he was decent enough and gave 100% every game, obviously not what we want but considering the state of the club at the time, Jack did what was required... dig in and grind out a few points to see us through our worst period.

Worked hard, Lee. I don't think anyone can question his work ethic but his end product was abysmal.

Crazy thing is, just after he signed, he scored a fantastic goal, that curling chip against Bournemouth. All thought we had a cracking little loan signing, but six months later like I say, looked like he'd won a competition on the back of a cereal box to play for Everton.

Maybe that’s what a year training at Everton does to you, eh?
