Jack Hinshelwood says playing well for Brighton will underpin his long-term aim of representing England at the 2030 World Cup.

“I had a good run, but I should have scored more goals,” “If I focus on my club football and see where that takes me, then playing well for Brighton is what’s going to help me.” “I’ve got to focus on that.” He told The Athletic.

Fabian Hurzeler shifted the 21-year-old to No 10, and he delivered three goals and two assists in Brighton’s last 11 league games.

That surge caught Thomas Tuchel’s eye, earning Hinshelwood a place on a 55-man long list for this summer’s tournament, though the England under-21 international missed the final cut.

He is resting now, while 35-year-old team-mate Jason Steele is training with Tuchel’s squad as the training goalkeeper before their opening group game against Croatia in Arlington.

Last summer he helped England Under-21s win the Euros, playing every minute from the last of three group games through to a 3-2 extra-time win over Germany in the final.

“A summer off (was) much needed, I think,” “It’s probably the first time in three or four years. I am going to use it.” “I felt the effects of it last summer from playing the Euros and coming back in, so I am going to take my time and prepare for a big season ahead."
