Prized memorabilia from late Wolverhampton referee Jack Taylor, including his 1974 World Cup final shirt and medal, are being sold in an online auction that closes on Wednesday.
According to ExpressAndStar.com, the items feature in Bonhams' Sports Memorabilia online sale, with the shirt estimated at £4,000-£6,000 and the medal at £3,000-£5,000.
Taylor’s 1971 European Cup final medal is listed at £5,000-£7,000, while his 1966 FA Cup final medals carry estimates of £1,500-£2,000 and a 1966 Charity Shield plaque £1,000-£1,500.
In the 1974 final, Taylor awarded the first penalty in a World Cup final after Uli Hoeness felled Netherlands captain Johan Cruyff inside the box, which Johan Neeskens converted.
He then gave another spot-kick when Wim Jansen tripped Bernd Holzenbein. Paul Breitner equalised from 12 yards, before Gerd Muller’s 43rd-minute strike won it for West Germany in Munich.
Three years earlier, he officiated Ajax’s 2-0 victory over Panathinaikos in the European Cup final at Wembley Stadium.
Taylor refereed more than 1,000 matches, including over 100 internationals, and was inducted into Fifa’s Hall of Fame. He died at his Shropshire home in July 2012 aged 82.
