The Hatters are looking to strengthen their squad with the new season a matter of weeks away
The 2026/27 League One season is now a matter of weeks away from kickstarting, and many will be intrigued to see how Luton Town's lineup in August looks under Jack Wilshere.
The new campaign will be the Hatters' second sucessive term in the third tier after a run of back-to-back relegations from the Premier League, as well as it representing the former Arsenal and England midfielder's first full season at Kenilworth Road and full-time management as a whole, having replaced Matt Bloomfield in Bedfordshire last October.
There is certainly an intriguing mix of clubs in League One this season, with the likes of Leicester City and Sheffield Wednesday expected to challenge at the top end of the table given their stature after being relegated from the Championship under clouds of financial uncertainty, while Luton will be hoping to continue a wave of momentum which saw them narrowly miss out on a play-off place on the final day of last season.
Indeed, after a slow start to the season post-relegation and Wilshere's tenure as a whole, the club enjoyed a strong run of momentum as matchday 46 got closer and closer, but they missed out by one point and one place to Stevenage, who were then comprehensively defeated in the play-off semi-finals themselves.
The summer transfer window has, of course, been open for just short of one month now, but for many clubs in the EFL and, indeed, across the world, it has been a slow burner due to the World Cup, which is now less than a week from concluding.
As such, with the Hatters' pre-season now well and truly underway, Wilshere has outlined his major plans for the remainder of the window, as the competitive season gets off and running with the EFL Cup first round tie at Gillingham on August 8th.

Yet, whilst the transfer window has been slow thus far in terms of movement in the market, Luton certainly have not stood still and have added three new faces to Wilshere's ranks, while a handful of others have departed themselves.
After Football League World exclusively revealed their initial interest, the Hatters moved to sign former Bolton Wanderers captain, George Johnston, on a free transfer, and have since acquired the services of Harrison Ashby on loan from Newcastle United and Kasey Palmer on a permanent basis from Hull City
In a pre-season clash with Hitchin Town, Luton had former Arsenal academy player, Harrison Dudziak on trial, while Wilshere stated how he hopes to continue making smart transfers, including a potential reunion with Emilio Lawrence from Manchester City.
“I think it’s with quality," Wilshere told Luton Today.
"My learning from last year was probably that rather than always thinking, right, we have to change the structure to change the swing of the game, sometimes you can just change personnel. If you think about it, for example, if you want to change the wingers, at the moment we’ve got Shayden (Morris) and Jake (Richards) on the right. In my opinion, Gideon (Kodua) is probably not a left winger and we spoke about that before, trying him more inside.
“Eventually we’re going to have to develop him more inside as that’s where I think we can get the most out of him. So if you look at it from that point of view, we don’t have a left winger, we don’t have the ability to change that. We lost Emilio out of the group that is now, so I think we want that, but we also know that it’s quality and we’re not just going to take anyone," he explained.
When asked on the possibility of sudden transfers, the 34-year-old added: “Hopefully, we’re always working. We’re having conversations with players, I’m having conversations with players, but everything has to fit together."

It is also a summer of change in terms of the off-field structure at Kenilworth Road, which was also first revealed by FLW, meaning that it could take some time for everything to come together for Luton as a collective.
However, with not much of that coming on the pitch, Wilshere will be hoping his team can get off to a fast start in League One and assert themselves as one of the favourites for at least a play-off position, which is where many will expect the club to finish, especially with the trio of signings that have already been made.
