Real Madrid will travel to Sevilla today for their second-last match of the season with little more than pride and goals in mind.
The La Liga title has already slipped away to bitter rivals Barcelona, who wrapped up the championship with a 2-0 win over Espanyol.
While Madrid did manage a 2-1 victory over Mallorca to delay the celebrations, the focus now shifts to ending the campaign on a high and keeping key players fit.
Carlo Ancelotti’s side may have nothing major to play for in terms of trophies, but the team still has reasons to stay sharp.
Top scorer hopeful Kylian Mbappe is chasing the Pichichi title, and the coach wants to avoid any further injury setbacks with a number of players already sidelined.
Against Mallorca, Madrid missed 12 players. That number is slightly better now, with 10 out of action for the Sevilla clash. Andriy Lunin, Lucas Vazquez, and Aurelien Tchouameni are back in the squad, but Raul Asensio remains out due to a long-standing muscle issue.
With Lunin just returning, Thibaut Courtois will once again take his place between the posts. The Belgian goalkeeper is still searching for a clean sheet in the last four games as the season winds down. He has been reliable, but the rotating defence in front of him has not made things easy.
Lucas Vazquez is expected to play at right-back, with Fran Garcia continuing on the left side of defence.
In central defence, Jacobo Ramon — the surprise hero in the last match — is likely to feature again, this time supported by the returning Aurelien Tchouameni, who is back from suspension and may be deployed deeper to cover the gaps.

Asensio’s absence with an adductor problem has made things even tighter, but Real Madrid are used to operating with limited options this season. The challenge now is to maintain balance and limit risk.
In midfield, Luka Modric will bring calm, and he is expected to form the base, while Federico Valverde will offer energy and drive. While the manager does have to option to use Dani Ceballos, he might give Modric his final minutes in the league
Jude Bellingham, as usual, will play further up the pitch as the attacking midfielder. His form has been steady, and he’ll aim to cap off the season with another top display.
Up front, Ancelotti is likely to field a fresh attacking trio. Arda Guler is likely to start on the right, with Kylian Mbappe on the left.
This means leading the line will be young Endrick, who has already impressed and will be hungry to find the net again.
Mbappe is the only player on the pitch with a clear personal mission: winning the Pichichi award. With Vinicius Jr., Rodrygo, and Brahim Diaz all out injured, he will carry the main goal-scoring responsibility.
