There was a period not long ago where Kendry Paez was the most exciting thing to talk about in Chelsea transfer land.

The exceptionally precocious was signed up as a 15 year old, but has since had his crown taken by the even more exciting Estevao Willian’s signing.

Now they are both set to arrive at Chelsea with Estevao dominating the hype while Paez’s reputation has declined a little. There’s still an immense talent there, but his club level struggles of late have contrasted with Estevao’s continued amazing form.

Nobody is in any doubt over where the Brazilian is going – straight into our first team squad. But Paez’s future is a lot less defined. Ben Jacobs has just Tweeted out an update about the potential plans for his season.

Jacobs on Paez’ uncertain season plan

Chelsea’s Kendry Paez plans laid out by Ben Jacobs.

Paez was without doubt a far more raw prospect than Estevao, despite having debuted at such a young age. Jacobs confirms he will “join up with Chelsea for the Club World Cup,” which means he should be at Cobham any day now for some training sessions.

Next season it sounds like a loan move to Strasbourg suits everyone. He’s actually already done some training sessions with our French sister club, but that shouldn’t be taken as meaning it’s a done deal. According to Jacobs it’s a “concrete possibility”, but noting has been decided yet. Paez has apparently “yet to be informed a potential loan to Strasbourg is on the cards,” which is strange as everyone else already knows that.

As ever, the manager will play a major part in deciding these things, and the Club World Cup actually gives an exceptionally good chance for Enzo Maresca to see youngsters like Paez in action and get to know them a little better.
