Manchester United have taken the opportunity to enquire about Andrey Santos while negotiating Alejandro Garnacho’s transfer to Chelsea.

The Argentinian winger is one of five Man Utd stars who were omitted from Ruben Amorim’s plans from the start of the summer. While Marcus Rashford managed to seal his dream move to Barcelona, the other four are still waiting to learn their fate.

Nevertheless, the writing is on the wall for Garnacho, as his imminent transfer to Chelsea is one of the worst-kept secrets in England.

The Blues are currently working on freeing up space in their squad to bring in the 21-year-old. They have reportedly asked Garnacho to remain patient, while promising to finalise the deal before the transfer window’s deadline.

However, the winger’s expected transfer might not be the only move operation brewing between the two clubs, or at least this is what Man Utd are hoping for.

During his appearance on The United Stand, British journalist Ben Jacobs revealed that United registered their interest in Santos during Garnacho’s talks.

The 21-year-old is a youth product of Vasco Da Gama who was poached by the West Londoners in January 2023. However, he has been constantly on loan ever since.

After an 18-month stint at Strasbourg, and was hailed as a ‘super talent’ thanks to some inspiring displays in the middle of the park. The Brazilian has returned to Stamford Bridge this summer, and Jacobs insists that Chelsea have no intention to sell the player.

Man United finding little joy in their pursuit of a midfielder

Therefore, it remains to be seen if Man United will persist in their attempts to convince their Premier League rivals to part ways with their player or pursue other profiles.

Jacobs confirmed the Red Devils’ interest in Sporting CP captain Morten Hjulmand, but revealed that they have yet to launch an offer. The same goes for Sevilla’s 23-year-old midfielder Lucien Agoume who recently emerged as a possible candidate for the role.

Finally, the journalist rules out the departure of Crystal Palace’s rising star, Adam Wharton, especially with Eberechi Eze finalising his transfer to Arsenal.
