After feeling a twinge in his left thigh against Grenoble and missing Dijon, Jakob Breum returned against Montpellier with a strong quarter of an hour that underlined his influence.
He came on in the 76th minute for Augustine Boakye and, according to Le Progres, eased nerves for head coach Ian Cathro, his staff and tens of thousands of Saint-Étienne supporters in the ground and at home.
His impact lay not only in his presence but in the quality of his few touches, which sharpened their play.
The Danish midfielder joined from Go Ahead Eagles, of the Dutch top flight, this summer for close to €two million.
He has barely needed acclimatisation to Ligue 2, and Saturday’s run-out reinforced that impression.
