James Milner is set to break the all-time Premier League appearance record when he starts Brighton & Hove Albion’s game against Brentford on Saturday, according to NY Times.
The outing will be his 654th in the English top flight, taking him one clear of Gareth Barry’s 653.
Across 23 years in the division, he has 56 goals and 87 assists and is a three-time champion.
Milner made his senior debut for Leeds United in 2002 aged 16 after coming through their academy. He had a brief loan at Swindon Town before spells with Newcastle United and Aston Villa.
He joined Manchester City in 2010, winning the Premier League twice across five seasons. A 2015 free transfer took him to Liverpool, where he won the Champions League in 2019 and the league in 2020.
Milner signed for Brighton in the summer of 2023 after his Liverpool contract expired and agreed a new one-year deal at the Amex Stadium last summer. After Saturday he will have featured 42 times for the south-coast club.
Barry’s 653 appearances came for Aston Villa, Manchester City, Everton and West Bromwich Albion. Ryan Giggs is third on the list with 632 for Manchester United.
