Reece James has said winger Estevao Willian ‘has the world at his feet’ after a brilliant start to his Chelsea career.

Estevao continued his impressive start at Chelsea with a goal in the club’s 2-2 draw with Qarabag in the Champions League on Wednesday.

The 18-year-old has already set a number of records since arriving in West London from Palmeiras in the summer. His goal in Europe this week made Estevao the youngest-ever South American to score in consecutive Champions League games.

Speaking after that win, Chelsea captain James said the club are excited by the potential of a youngster he called an ‘amazing player’. However, he said the Blues must ‘protect’ Estevao as he continues to develop at Stamford Bridge.

“He’s an amazing player, he has the world at his feet,” James said to TNT Sports.

“He’s obviously still so young, so we need to protect him and keep him healthy. He has a lot of development to come but we’re super happy to have him here.”
