Leeds United opened their Premier League campaign with a 1-0 victory at the City Ground, sealed by Anton Stach’s late free-kick and accompanied by several records.
Leedsunited.news highlights that the result brought a clutch of landmarks for Daniel Farke’s side. After a tight contest, Stach curled in an 89th-minute free-kick, with debutant goalkeeper James Trafford earlier thwarting Nikola Milenkovic.
It gives Leeds back-to-back opening-day Premier League wins, following last season’s success over Everton at Elland Road. The last time Leeds beat Nottingham Forest on the first day of a top-flight season, Howard Wilkinson’s team went on to win the 1991-92 First Division title.
In the top flight, Leeds had not beaten Forest away since Don Revie, who managed five such wins between 1966 and 1971 and also triumphed there as a player in 1959. Farke becomes the first, and only, Leeds manager since Revie to win a top-flight away match at Forest.
No one expects a title push and Premier League safety would still represent a good season, though this start lets supporters dream.
Since arriving for £19.9m in the summer of 2025, Stach has scored more direct free-kicks than any other player, including three in the Premier League last season.
Trafford’s shutout makes him the first Leeds goalkeeper since 1998 to keep a clean sheet on his Premier League debut, the previous being Paul Robinson against Chelsea in 1998.
