This is what's going on with the young Clarets keeper this summer.

James Trafford has been linked with a few clubs this summer as the uncertainty around his Burnley future goes on.

The sale of Aro Muric to Ipswich Town made it seem like the England under-21 was dead set to be Scott Parker's number-one goalkeeper going forward. However, the arrival of a former Tractor Boy in Vaclav Hladky has thrown that status up in the air.

The starting spot between the sticks looks to be firmly up for grabs but Trafford may not have the chance to fight for it again given the teams that are said to be looking at him in this window.

While he may not have lived up to expectations last season, the quality has been displayed in the past, whether it was at youth level for his country or in a loan spell in League One with Bolton Wanderers.

However, those who don't have that faith anymore might not need to re-find it, if any of these links between him and top flight sides come to fruition.

Trafford's former club Manchester City are said to view Trafford as an option for this summer in case they sell their first choice keeper Ederson.

The Brazilian has been linked with a move to Saudi Arabia and, even though Stefan Ortega would likely become Pep Guardiola's first choice, HITC have reported that the 21-year-old is on their radar.

City sold the glovesman to Burnley last season for a package worth up to £19 million, and they included a buy-back clause, which would make this deal a much smoother one to do. They are also said to be looking at Sunderland keeper Anthony Patterson, as per HITC.

Newcastle United bid expected

Alan Nixon has reported there is an expectation that Newcastle will once again launch a bid for Trafford. They attempted to get him for £16 million earlier in the window. However, since Burnley didn't want to risk any losses from him, they asked for £20 million, but the Magpies didn't give in to their demands.

They've already brought in two keepers this summer: John Ruddy and Odysseas Vlachodimos.

One thing that has also caused issues in this deal is the sell-on clause that Man City have. They will receive 20% of the money that Burnley receive for Trafford, in the event of them selling him, according to the Northern Echo.

This has caused them to put the price higher than they would have if the clause were not there, as they wouldn't receive the full fee from the prospective buyers.

In case Trafford is moved on this summer, the Clarets' boss has reportedly identified AFC Bournemouth keeper Mark Travers as a potential replacement.

Parker and Travers worked together during the manager's time with the Cherries. They won promotion together, and, in that season, the keeper played in all but one league game for Bournemouth.

The Irish international spent the first half of last season on loan at Stoke City before being recalled by Andoni Iraola.

It remains to be seen whether the South Coast club are happy to let him leave.
