Aaron Ramsdale is currently on loan at Newcastle United from Southampton
Manchester City goalkeeper James Trafford is prioritising a move to Aston Villa over Newcastle United this summer in a move that could impact Aaron Ramsdale’s future at Southampton.
According to Football Insider, the shot stopper is keen to work with Unai Emery amid uncertainty over his future at the Etihad.
Trafford’s future with the Premier League side is up in the air despite joining the club in the summer transfer window.
The 23-year-old made the switch from Burnley in a deal worth a reported £27 million, but he has found himself down the pecking order of Pep Guardiola’s side.
The goalkeeper has made three appearances in the Premier League this season, the last of which came in a 2-1 loss to Brighton back in August.

Trafford is understood to prefer a move to Aston Villa over Newcastle this summer amid speculation over his future.
This could have an impact at Southampton, with Ramsdale currently on loan with the Magpies, with an option to buy clause as part of the deal.
It’s been reported that Eddie Howe’s side could target a move for the 23-year-old, should they opt against keeping the Saints star.
However, the Premier League side are currently behind their rivals in the race to Trafford’s signature, which could lead to them seeking Ramsdale on a permanent basis.
The goalkeeper has made seven appearances in the top flight so far this season, with Newcastle 10th in the table, and hoping to qualify for European competition.
Ramsdale has also played in the Champions League for the Magpies, featuring in their 2-2 draw against Bayer Leverkusen in October.
Meanwhile, Southampton are aiming to earn promotion to the Premier League, with Tonda Eckert’s side 10th in the Championship.
Next up for the Hampshire outfit is a home clash against Charlton Athletic on 21 February in a 3pm kick-off.

Ramsdale hasn’t been a regular presence for Newcastle this season, with Nick Pope the preferred option to Howe when both are available.
On that basis, it would be surprising if Newcastle sought to complete a permanent move for the Southampton player at this stage.
While they may miss out on the addition of Trafford, his signing would likely be to become the first-choice option in the team.
Newcastle may be in the market for a replacement for Pope and, at this stage, a permanent move for Ramsale may be seen as a last resort for Newcastle if they cannot secure any other options.
