Arsenal’s bid for an unprecedented quadruple were extinguished on Sunday following a 2-0 defeat to Manchester City in the Carabao Cup final.

Nico O’Reilly scored twice in four minutes to ensure Man City claimed the first piece of silverware of the season, leaving the Gunners to reflect on a disappointing performance at Wembley Stadium in the process.

"I think what we saw today and one of the criticisms I have of Arsenal as team, as I've said they are the best team in the league, they have only lost four games in 50,” Carragher said on Sky Sports.

"Let's not get too carried away, let's not forget that.

"But in terms of, not so much the [Premier] League, but maybe the Champions League because they are on the right side of the draw, they've got a great opportunity in the Champions League.

"But that today, I was looking at it again and I have said it consistently, they lack something really special in attack - a world class talent who could have just turned that game for them, they definitely lack that."

Arsenal overcame Bayer Leverkusen 3-1 on aggregate in the Champions League last-16 and will now face Sporting CP, who produced a stirring comeback against Bodo/Glimt, in the quarter-finals next month.

Prior to returning to the European stage, Arsenal take on Southampton in the FA Cup quarter-final on April 4 as they bid to bounce back from defeat to Man City and keep hopes of a treble alive.
