Erling Haaland has already established himself as the ‘greatest goalscorer to ever play’ in England, according to Premier League icon and now pundit Jamie Carragher.

The Norwegian forward’s dominance in English football has been well-documented since joining City from Borussia Dortmund in 2022, with a record-breaking debut campaign that saw him score 52 goals across all competitions and another remarkable start to the 2025/26 season.

Haaland has further established himself among Manchester City’s all-time leading goalscorers with 135 goals in just 154 games, seriously rivalling club legend Sergio Aguero while also overtaking Ole Gunnar Solskjær as the highest-scoring Norwegian in Premier League history.

These feats have etched his name among the division’s greatest-ever finishers, but for many, including Jamie Carragher, Erling Haaland’s influence goes beyond statistics with this praise coming after Guardiola compared Haaland’s scoring prowess to Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.

Thierry Henry also recently claimed the striker will only get “freakier” as he develops, while Haaland’s consistent humility off the pitch – including his recent comments about his relationship and “stay humble” attitude – continues to endear him to supporters.

Speaking on ‘Super Sunday: Extra Time‘, Sky Sports pundit and Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher admitted his belief that City not only have the “greatest goalscorer to every play in English football”, but also a striker that has surpassed Sergio Aguero.

“I think we’re watching the greatest goalscorer to ever play in English football,” said Carragher on Erling Haaland. “I honestly can’t remember Jimmy Greaves, Dixie Dean and all those players from years ago.”

The former Anfield centre-back continued, “But I think of Gary Lineker, Alan Shearer, Harry Kane and Ian Rush for my club Liverpool. There’s a difference for me between a great centre-forward or striker and a goalscorer.

“I think what we’re witnessing now is something we’ve never seen before in our game and don’t forget, this is a club where the goalscorer beforehand was Sergio Aguero, one of the greatest we’ll ever see. This is on a completely different level to Aguero. He’s the best.”

Jamie Carragher’s comments underline a growing consensus across football that Erling Haaland may already be cementing a legacy unmatched in Premier League history.

His record-breaking efficiency, combined with the sheer physical dominance and consistency he brings to Guardiola’s side, make him a unique force; one who continues to redefine expectations for a number nine.

With Haaland recently signing a new long-term contract at City running until 2034 – a deal that will take him to his 34th birthday – the Premier League may only just be seeing the beginning of his era.

If his current trajectory continues, Erling Haaland could well finish his career not only as Manchester City’s greatest-ever striker statistically, but as the most prolific forward English football has ever witnessed.
