Jamie Carragher names just TWO of Jurgen Klopp's record breakers in his all-time Liverpool XI

Jamie Carragher has only included two players from Jurgen Klopp’s record-breaking Liverpool side in his greatest Liverpool XI of all time.

Klopp won every domestic trophy and a Champions League in his time at the club, but despite these impressive achievements the former Liverpool centre back could only find space for two of Klopp's stars in his XI.

After coming through the academy, Carragher played 737 times for Liverpool, putting him second on the all-time appearances list for the club.

He was asked to compile his chosen team on the Stick to Football podcast, alongside Roy Keane, Gary Neville and Ian Wright.

Who did Carragher pick?

The two players he selected were Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk. He had no doubt in picking Van Dijk alongside Alan Hansen, but admitted there were two options on the right-hand side.

He said: “Before Mo Salah joined the club, I would always play a completely different player, Ian Callaghan. He is the only player who has played more games for Liverpool than me, he played 860 games.

“He won the Second Division with Liverpool and I think one of his last games was the 1977 European Cup final. So you think of that journey of being a Second Division player, a local player and he’s played the most games. But Mo Salah has got to go in on that right side.”

Carragher also only went for two of his former team-mates, Steven Gerrard and John Barnes. These two selections are not surprising at all, he previously named Barnes as the best player he had ever trained with on the Peter Crouch Podcast.

He did mention some other current Liverpool stars, but could not find space for them, due to their lower trophy hauls than past players.

Carragher picks Clemence over Alisson

He said: “I would go with Ray Clemence, just, over Alisson, just for the fact he won so many trophies.

“Right-back, Phil Neal or Trent . When you think of players who played for say AC Milan and stuff like that, we go, ‘He’s won the European Cup four or five times’, we go, ‘Wow, Madrid and Barça players’ – Phil Neal won four European Cups, it’s unbelievable that.

“I think if I was asked this question at the end of Trent’s career I’d probably say Trent, but I will go with Phil Neal for the fact that he’s won four European Cups.”

He did also give a mention to Luis Suarez up front, but decided that the lack of trophies for Liverpool hurt his chances, and Rush’s number of goals, and specifically his FA Cup final double in 1989 against Everton secured the Welshman’s spot.
