Jamie Vardy has returned to England, signing a one-year deal with Burnley, recently relegated to the Championship, after a season at Cremonese. The move was announced on Sunday.

Head coach Nicky Hayen said in a club statement that Vardy’s experience and leadership would be valuable and that they were confident he would have a significant impact this season.

After 13 years at Leicester, where he scored 200 goals in 500 matches and won the 2016 title, he joined Cremonese in the summer of 2025. He turns 40 on 11 January 2027.

Cremonese were relegated to Serie B and he departed on a free after one season, having scored seven in 26 appearances. The England international has 26 caps and seven goals.

He now returns to the English second tier two years on, having hit 18 in 35 for Leicester in his last Championship campaign.

Burnley have begun poorly, bottom of the table with two draws and three defeats, and are coming off successive 1-2 losses to Middlesbrough and Bristol.
