Jamie Vardy will leave Cremonese at the end of his contract following their relegation from Serie A. According to Fabrizio Romano, he will depart in the summer and become a free agent.

Vardy signed a one-year deal with the Italian side after leaving Leicester City last summer. The contract carried an option for a further year if they avoided relegation.

Cremonese failed to beat Como on the final day over the weekend and finished four points from safety. They will join Hellas Verona and Pisa in the second division.

Vardy scored seven times in Italy and has been linked with a return to Sheffield Wednesday, where he played at academy level. The Owls will be in League One with the Foxes next season.

A year ago, Vardy said: “Football is a crazy world. You never know what's going to happen. I'll keep going until my legs tell me I need to stop. My legs are fine.” He was speaking to Sky Sports.

His next move is unclear, and at 39 he has previously said he will know when it is time to retire. He turns 40 in January.
