The San Jose Earthquakes have signed midfielder Alfredo Morales after acquiring his rights from NYCFC via trade. As part of the trade, NYCFC acquired a 3rd round MLS SuperDraft selection in 2026. The 33 year old former USMNT international has had a successful career, winning titles within the United States and Germany. Morales won the 2021 MLS Cup, 2022 Campeones Cup, and three 2.Bundesliga titles. In 332 career games, Morales has scored 14 goals and 24 assists. The defensive midfielder played one of the most key parts for NYCFC during their 2021 MLS Cup run.
Morales now joins a San Jose Earthquakes squad most likely as depth behind the likes of Carlos Gruezo. Morales saw his playing time fall off in 2023 with NYCFC, then with his contract option not picked up by the club. I expect nothing less than a solid depth piece option for Morales’s future at San Jose. I am excited to see what he can do under Luchi Gonzalez and his system.
