Caspar Jander will miss Saints’ trip to Wrexham, but head coach Tonda Eckert said he is very sure the midfielder will be involved in the first match after the three-week international break. According to Daily Echo, that fixture is the south coast derby against Portsmouth at St Mary’s on Sunday, October 11.
The 23-year-old has been out since hobbling off with a quad injury in July during a pre-season win at Eastleigh. He had been pencilled in for Saturday’s game, but now needs another week before returning to training.
Eckert told his pre-match press conference that Jander needs one more week and will not be ready for tomorrow.
His possible return would be a boost for Saints, who have been without a key midfielder through the opening weeks of the Championship campaign.
Eckert also offered a positive note on Flynn Downes after the midfielder was withdrawn at half-time in last weekend’s 4-1 win over Bristol City, saying the player is okay.
Downes is expected to be available at Wrexham as Saints aim to build on that emphatic victory.
