Manchester City have been the major movers in a quiet January window, with the weekend potentially bringing a livelier finish to mid-season trading.

According to Telegraph, the biggest late business is likely to come from clubs with plenty at stake, with Aston Villa active near the top and West Ham seeking reinforcements.

Jean-Philippe Mateta, 28, wants to leave Crystal Palace this week and, despite a deal running to 2027, Forest have made a 35m move. Juventus and AC Milan are monitoring, while Palace have considered Jorgen Strand Larsen and Sidiki Cherif. Villa have prioritised Tammy Abraham.

Wolves rejected 30m and 35m bids for Strand Larsen in the summer, and Leeds have since gone in above 30m, though no agreement has been reached. Palace retain interest in the 25-year-old.

Fulham’s Harry Wilson has nine goals and less than six months left on his deal. Villa admire him for the right flank, with Everton, Palace and Brentford also informed as clubs weigh a free in summer against a move now.

Villa’s primary target is Abraham, whose Besiktas loan and purchase obligation complicated matters. Besiktas have paid 311.2m to Roma and are close to a deal with Villa worth around 318m.

Fulham are pushing for Oscar Bobb from City, expected to cost over 30m, with Dortmund having tracked him and Spurs still seeking a winger.

West Ham are close to letting Lucas Paqueta return to Flamengo in a 35.5m deal, with a decision pending on a loan-back for the rest of the season.

Spurs and West Ham have held talks over a swap involving Antonin Kinsky and Mads Hermansen, who joined from Leicester for 16.5m and has five appearances this season.

As it stands, Andy Robertson to Tottenham is off after a bid of about 35m, though time remains and he has under six months left, allowing pre-contract talks for 2026-27.

West Ham have revisited a loan for James Ward-Prowse to Burnley, with the clubs five points apart in the drop zone after he made the weekend squad.
