Former Chelsea defender Jason Cundy has named the current Blues man who’s “brain doesn’t think like a natural footballer.”

Sounds a bit extreme, right? But interestingly, he was actually using these words whilst complimenting the player!

Cundy says after watching goalkeeper Robert Sanchez play in the latest game against Arsenal, that his brain does not think like a natural footballer. But before that bit, he was actually praising the stopper for recent form in the sticks for Chelsea.

In words cited on X this week, Cundy said on Sanchez:

“I’ve not seen that performance [vs Arsenal] from [Robert] Sanchez with the ball at his feet for probably about a year now.

“I feel for Sanchez, because clearly he’s been asked by Liam Rosenior to draw Arsenal onto us. And the problem he’s got is his brain doesn’t think like a natural footballer.”

He’s right here though, Sanchez has been much better lately. But overall he is just not good enough playing out short from the back for me. He doesn’t exactly breed confidence when he is doing that and he looks much better when he is allowed to mix it up and go long sometimes as well.

I am a believer in playing to players strengths, and playing out short every time is just making Sanchez more and more nervous again.
