Former Blue Jason Cundy labelled Chelsea as fragile following their defeat to Brighton and believes Levi Colwill needs help.

The Blues slumped to a 3-0 defeat on the south coast in arguably their worst performance of the season, meaning it’s now two wins in their last nine league games.

With Manchester City and Bournemouth both winning on Saturday afternoon it means that Chelsea have slipped to sixth in the table, but they are just one point outside the top four.

Cundy claims Colwill needs help

The Blues failed to muster a single shot on target against the Seagulls, and to make matters worse they lost Noni Madueke to a hamstring injury.

Defensively the Blues were all over the place, with both Colwill and Trevoh Chalobah struggling throughout the 90 minutes.

Wesley Fofana is a big miss, although the Frenchman is back out on the grass in good news, but a lack of experience at the back is really costing Enzo Maresca’s side.

Thiago Silva’s leadership and experience haven’t been replaced and Cundy feels that Colwill is learning on the job, and claimed the Blues look fragile.

“Levi Colwill is learning on the job, he needs a John Terry or Thiago Silva next to him,” he told talkSPORT.

“When John Terry came in, he had Frank Leboeuf and Marcel Desailly, they learned off of each other. We’re fragile.”

Cundy isn’t wrong and Colwill has looked exposed in recent weeks, making a number of mistakes including against West Ham and in Friday’s defeat to Brighton.

A centre back with experience and leadership needs to be signed in the summer to help out, but whether the club will actually do that remains to be seen.

Fofana returning will be a big boost, but at 23 he doesn’t possess the required leadership or experience either, whilst Tosin Adarabioyo is very much a squad player, although his leadership skills were praised by Maresca earlier in the season.
