Javi Guerra has reignited his Valencia prospects, delivering two starts in the last three league matches and 212 minutes as he pushes for a return to the XI.
According to Superdeporte, the midfielder had fallen out of the side since early in the year, even going unused at La Cartuja, but he now appears to be reclaiming his spot as Largie Ramazani takes the headlines for goals.
His resurgence began in the Ciutat de València derby against Levante, when he came on after the break and drove from his own half to spark the 0-1, finished by Ramazani past Mathew Ryan. He also contributed to the 0-2 as Umar Sadiq turned his clearance into an assist to settle the match.
Since then, Corberán has started him against Villarreal and Osasuna. Lucas Beltrán’s injury has been a factor, but the coach still picked Guerra to cover the Argentine’s place.
At Villarreal he was among Valencia’s brighter performers in a difficult outing. He kept his spot for the win over Osasuna, helping control midfield with Guido Rodríguez and Ugrinic, driving forward and breaking lines, even if not throughout.
It has not been a straightforward season. He renewed last summer despite interest from several clubs, moving into the squad’s top salary tier. He has kept working after losing his place and, while more is rightly asked of a player of his quality, these three matches could be a springboard to regain the level that dazzled LaLiga and attracted major European clubs.
