Javier Aguirre has moved quickly at Paterna, keeping Aaron Mayol with the Valencia first team as he begins his tenure.

According to Superdeporte, the Mexican coach led his first session on Thursday immediately after landing at Manises, has already overseen four training sessions and is making early calls.

One decision is to retain Mayol with the seniors until further notice. Aimar Blázquez dropped down to help Óscar Sánchez’s reserve side against Poblense, while the midfielder had a rest day along with the rest of the first team.

Mayol has completed two full matches and scored his first goal at Mestalla, strengthening his case to be important for Aguirre, who wants him close to oversee his development.

Given the shortage of wingers, David Otorbi had not even featured for the reserves this season, but he is another academy product who is going to be important. Against Real Sociedad he energised the side and is viewed as the most direct attacker.

The forward did step down to play for Mestalla this matchday, but will continue working with the first team. Valencia have only Hugo Duro as a nine and Blázquez has a big opportunity to play a prominent role under Aguirre after his impact against Real Sociedad, scoring once and going close to a second.
