According to Superdeporte, Javier Aguirre has made Valencia’s shortlist under new sporting director Braulio Vázquez after clearing initial talks, with discussions to intensify before Real Sociedad visit Mestalla on Sunday at 21:00.

This week’s contacts have centred on football and the former Mexico boss’s readiness to take charge after a chaotic start that has left Valencia in the relegation zone. They have one win in six, despite aiming for Europe.

Last Sunday the club dismissed head coach Carlos Corberán and Ron Gourlay, the CEO of Football, before the international break.

Aguirre, 67, is keen to accept the challenge. He brought Mallorca to safety in 2022 and almost kept Leganés up after arriving in November 2019, and he views this Valencia squad as capable of competing in LaLiga.
