La Liga president Javier Tebas has weighed in on the row involving Benfica’s Prestianni and Vinicius Jr. According to Glorioso 1904, speaking at the Football Summit, he said racism should be eradicated and that if the Benfica player is found to have used an insult, he should be sanctioned.

He argued football cannot tolerate racist, homophobic or hate insults in the stands, outside grounds or among those taking part, and said there has to be swift action in such cases.

Tebas suggested Spain now sees far fewer racist insults, noting a clear decline. The last incident he cited was involving Lamine Yamal at the Santiago Bernabéu, and he said he could not recall others, even in lower divisions.

He added that efforts also extend beyond stadiums, with La Liga pursuing any racist chanting by supporters through the courts and taking cases as far as possible. He said four cases have already been brought and that the league will continue.

Prestianni remains in difficulty with UEFA over the dispute with the Brazil international.
