FC Barcelona may finally be in a position to operate under La Liga’s 1:1 Financial Fair Play rule, with league president Javier Tebas strongly suggesting the club have made significant progress.

Speaking during the Complutense University summer courses, Tebas was asked whether Barcelona had returned to the 1:1 rule that allows clubs to reinvest every euro they save or generate.

As quoted by SPORT, Tebas replied:

“I think so. Let Barcelona say it. We communicated it to them, they will know. I don’t know, the Economic Control department handles that.”

While he stopped short of officially confirming the change, his comments indicate Barcelona’s financial situation has improved considerably.

Barcelona’s recent business could prove decisive

Barcelona recently completed several important financial operations before the end of the accounting year, including the sale of Ansu Fati to Monaco and revenue generated from the partial resale of VIP seats at the new Spotify Camp Nou.

Those deals were designed to strengthen the club’s finances and improve their position under La Liga’s Financial Fair Play regulations.

Tebas also explained how major transfers are calculated under the league’s economic rules. He said:

“When you sign a player, if you pay 100 million, it is amortised. For Fair Play, if you sign him for 100 million on a five-year contract, 20 million counts each year. Then you add the player’s salary.”

That explanation is particularly relevant given Barcelona’s continued pursuit of Atletico Madrid striker Julian Alvarez.

For Barca supporters, Tebas’ comments are encouraging. Returning to the 1:1 rule would give the club much greater flexibility in the transfer market after several difficult years of financial restrictions.

However, until Barcelona officially confirm their status, some caution remains necessary.

If the club have indeed returned to normal operating conditions, it would represent another important milestone in their financial recovery and significantly strengthen their position ahead of the rest of the summer transfer window.
