According to L'Équipe, three sports documentaries land this week, spanning Jean-Claude Darmon, a Vendée Globe outsider and French street football in Rio.
L'Argentier screens on Canal+ at 21:00 on Sunday, a 90-minute portrait of Jean-Claude Darmon, who drove French football’s commercial boom from the 1970s to 2004 after selling Sportfive. Director Florent Bodin traces his path from Oran and Marseille docks to boardrooms.
Darmon says he pioneered stadium ads, matchday shows, VIP tribunes and TV rights, a claim backed by notable voices including Patrick Bruel, Xavier Niel, Didier Deschamps, Michel Denisot, Pierre Lescure and Laurent Tapie. Nicolas Sarkozy sees loquacity as a guard against impostor fears.
