The French Football Federation’s ethics council is set to examine whether Jean-Michel Aulas breached campaign conduct rules with his pledge to build a stadium in La Duchère. The plan was unveiled while he runs for Lyon’s mayoralty.

According to Challenges, the Conseil national de l’éthique et de la déontologie will look at whether he made football-linked electoral promises and whether he used his FFF role for electoral ends.

In September, he was allowed to remain vice-president while contesting March’s municipal elections, subject to strict conduct rules. Those included refraining from football-related pledges and not using FFF functions for electoral purposes.

On Wednesday in La Duchère, in Lyon’s ninth arrondissement, Aulas announced plans for a new ground holding between 10,000 and 15,000 spectators, part of a mini OL Vallée concept. He presented it alongside Jean-Louis Borloo, and the local club compete in the third division.

Citing the success of Groupama Stadium and OL Vallée from his time at Olympique lyonnais, he also highlighted his status as FFF vice-president. He added that the professional third division, to be administered by the federation, will need intermediate facilities.

If elected, and throughout the campaign, he must recuse himself from FFF discussions or decisions concerning Lyon, Olympique lyonnais or other clubs in the metropolitan area.
