FFF vice-president Jean-Michel Aulas has questioned the executive committee’s exclusion from discussions on Zinédine Zidane’s potential appointment, saying the secrecy has left him unsettled. Zidane has long been viewed as the leading candidate to succeed Didier Deschamps.
According to L'Équipe, president Philippe Diallo has quietly led the administrative work on the succession with director general Jean-François Vilotte, aiming to preserve a semblance of suspense, without involving the federation’s legal or commercial teams.
That approach also bypassed the executive committee, leaving several members unhappy. Aulas in particular has objected to what he views as a watertight process at the top of the federation.
He emailed nearly 30 committee colleagues after a summons demanding in-person attendance next Tuesday, when the FFF would announce the next France head coach. He criticised the short notice during the holiday period.
Aulas said attending in person would be impossible and that he could only join by video, adding it was not ideal if newspapers were informed before the committee. He argued a meeting before the end of the week would have been democratically and amicably welcome.
