Jean-Philippe Mateta (28) saw a move to AC Milan fall through at the end of the transfer window. It was a knee injury, one from which he has been suffering for several months, that put paid to the Frenchman’s move to the San Siro, with the centre-forward failing his medical.

In the wake of that aborted move, Mateta remained at Crystal Palace, despite his desire for a move away from Selhurst Park. However, the extent to which he would participate between now and the end of the season was called into question, with Sacha Tavolieri reporting that the striker was set to undergo surgery on the affected knee, potentially ending his campaign, as well as his dream to represent France at this summer’s FIFA World Cup.

However, Le Parisien understands that Mateta has avoided the need for surgery. It means that he will be able to feature for Crystal Palace and continue to dream of a place in Didier Deschamps’ squad this summer.
