According to a report from La Provence, Jean-Pierre Papin has rejected the opportunity to become the next head coach of FC Martigues.
The Ligue 2 side from a commune northwest of Marseille have been in search of a new head coach since they released Thierry Laurey on the 16th of December. Results have been poor for the newly promoted side and they currently sit bottom of the table with a six-point gap between them and AC Ajaccio.
It had looked like Papin was close to taking the reigns in Martigues. However, despite Papin having an interest in returning to first-team coaching, his interest in Les Sang et Or reportedly cooled due to the club’s predicament and their most recent loss in the Coupe de France to amateur side Bourgoin-Jallieu (4-1).
La Provence writes that it is expected that Papin will instead continue his work as the head coach of the Olympic de Marseille reserves until at least the end of the season.
