Leicester have been without a manager for five days now, after Marti Cifuentes was sacked following the Foxes' home defeat against relegation-battling Oxford United.

In the statement following that decision, it was revealed that former midfielder Andy King, who was part of the Leicester side that earned promotion from League One in 2009 and then won the Premier League with the Foxes seven years later, would be taking charge on an interim basis while the club looks to find a new boss.

And, via an update on their social media channels ahead of their game against Charlton Athletic on Saturday, the Foxes have stated that Assistant Manager Xavi Calm, Goalkeeping Coach Javi Ortiz and Analyst Carlos Martinez Gil have all departed, along with Cifuentes.

The statement goes on to confirm that King will be in the dugout for the visit of the Addicks, and former teammate and current Norwich City wideman Jeffrey Schlupp has offered a message of support to his fellow Premier League title-winner.

Ahead of their first game of the post-Marti Cifuentes era on Saturday, Leicester shed some light on the personnel changes at the club over the last week, with three members of the former backroom staff departing.

The statement also reads that King will be "overseeing preparations" ahead of the game against Charlton, but does stress that the club are continuing their process of hiring a new manager.

In addition to this, Adam Sadler, who has a nine-year connection with the club in various roles from 2014 to 2023, will be aiding the interim Leicester manager as part of his coaching staff.

In the comments of the Instagram post detailing all of this, former Leicester midfielder Schlupp, who was a teammate of King's during the club's rise from the Championship to Premier League champions, offered his support with a simple "💙👏🏾" comment.

The two former teammates played very similar roles in the Foxes side that won the Premier League in 2016, playing a part in 24 and 25 games of the campaign, respectively, and being in and out of the starting lineup at times.

Evidently, the two are still close friends, and Schlupp, alongside the majority of those inside the King Power Stadium on Saturday, are eager to see the Welshman succeed.

Andy King can add to his Leicester City legend with a debut win as interim manager

King is more than well-liked at the King Power Stadium, having been at the club for 16 years from his time in the academy to his eventual departure in 2020. His return as part of the coaching staff in late 2024 was well-received, too.

The fans are going to get behind one of their unsung heroes and modern-day legends this Saturday, and he could truly help get the good vibes back at the club after what has been a disappointing campaign so far.

If the current inconsistencies in their form continue, it won't be long until Leicester are looking nervously over their shoulders, especially if the defeats come against sides below them, like Oxford last weekend, and potentially Charlton this week.

With the Addicks just six points behind their hosts, the Foxes desperately need a win this Saturday just to keep those below them at arm's length and ensure that the transition into a new era when a permanent manager is announced isn't done with the club under even more pressure on the field.

If King can oversee a steadying of the ship during his time as interim, an already respected figure at the club will get even more credit in the bank among Leicester fans, and evidently, those he shared the pitch with in the past are hoping he succeeds, too.
