Andrée Jeglertz expects Iman Beney to get even better after an exciting home debut in our 2-1 win over Brighton.

The Swiss international played an hour at the Joie Stadium and was often the driving force for the Blues in the first 45.

City went in behind at the break but turned the game around in the second half with goals from Bunny Shaw and Yui Hasegawa.

But Jeglertz, celebrating his first win as Head Coach, was quick to celebrate the contribution of Beney to that victory.

“I’m so happy for her,” he said in his post-match press conference.

“It's always a special thing to go in and start a home game but she’s showing definitely what a talent she already is now.

“She’s bringing a lot to the team and the more she’s with us the more she’ll grow into how we’re playing. I'm very happy for her.”

Jeglertz had spoken about City’s threat in central areas in the week, and Hasegawa’s winning strike provided a perfect demonstration of that work.

The Japan international latched onto Aoba Fujino’s clever pass in behind the Brighton defence and, after steadying herself, coolly slotted home to secure the three points.

And our Head Coach believes getting the likes of Yui and other midfielders into scoring positions offers a new dimension to City’s attack.

He added: “We’ve talked a lot about Yui, but also this central combination.

“We scored on a cross but one of the key things for us is to find different ways of scoring, now we have a central combo with Yui scoring.

“It shows we’re unpredictable and gives us more opportunities to create scoring chances.

“With Yui’s intelligence to find spaces where she can arrive, also the goal was fantastic combination play.”

The boss also provided an update on the condition of Sydney Lohmann, who missed our victory against Brighton through injury.

And Jeglertz confirmed the nature of the Germany international’s issue in his post-match press conference.

He said: “She has a small feeling in her leg, so wasn’t available for the game.”
