Andrée Jeglertz has described how captain Alex Greenwood’s leadership has been crucial to our success in 2025/26.

The City skipper put in one of her finest display in Blue in a 4-0 FA Cup final win over Brighton, having a hand in three of our four goals at Wembley Stadium.

Greenwood set up Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw for our opener, before getting on the scoresheet from a free-kick before half-time.

It was an imperious display from the England international, with Jeglertz praising her attitude towards leading the team from left-back, rather than her favoured central position.

“There’s a lot you can say about her. First, she’s a great person, player and leader,” our Head Coach said of Greenwood.

“She has meant a lot to me this year also because she’s taking care of the locker room all the time.

“She’s a great leader and also as a player, like you see today, she’s played centre-back for many years but she’s also shown she’s curious to become a better player in all positions.

“She was fantastic at left-back today and all spring.

“With her qualities and personality to still be eager to get better, everyone understands that’s the right way to be.”

City’s win over the Seagulls caps off a truly special 2025/26 campaign, which saw the Blues claim a WSL and FA Cup double for the first time in our history.

It means this has been the most successful season of our professional era, and Jeglertz has been delighted by his players’ mentality to push for FA Cup success even after sealing the league title.

He says that sort of attitude will be crucial in 2026/27, as City return to UEFA Champions League football.

“Yes, of course. It’s an amazing end of the season, it’s been a long year,” he added.

“Winning the WSL title was big for the Club but we have also talked about, there being one thing to win a title but also a couple of weeks later being able to be a winning team that win the next time.

“To keep on having this hunger and dedication to want more, that’ll be important for us in the future.

“To not think anything will be taken for granted, we have to keep this hunger.”
